Teaching As A Career
If you have ever considered a future in Education as a teacher, then what better career opportunity could you find than a rewarding future and long term career.
Your school days are so very important, the harder you work then the better future you map out for yourself.
In order to start the training process as a teacher you will need to achieve at least 5 GCSE grades A-C. An A level is then required in one of the core subjects such as English, Maths or Science.
BED offers a 4 year course which will lead to qualified teacher status, alternatively the PGCE is a 1 year course but requires degree entry level. If you are a mature student you can complete an access course before going on to the 4 year BED course.
To see whether a career in teaching is for you, you could always volunteer to work in a primary school or could try to get a position as a classroom assistant which does not require a formal qualification.
Primary and Secondary placements are very different so you need to decide if you would prefer to teach younger or older children.
There is also the opportunity to go on a graduate teacher training programme which is a paid work placement, although these are few and far between and may not be very easy to find.
If you are interested in becoming a sports teacher then a degree in sports science would be a great start once you have completed your A levels. If you do this in addition to another subject you would stand a better chance of a good placement and it would give you a better chance of working in an independent/public school as they have a big focus on sports if that is something that appeals to you.
There are several Internet Job Sites and Job boards that advertise vacancies in the education sector. If you register your details and upload a current CV, you will be able to search for suitable positions both in the UK and overseas. Alternatively, if you are unable to find a suitable position on a permanent basis then you could register with an agency as a supply teacher. This will give you great experience and an insight to the Job role and the varied way schools are run. The average daily payment figure is around £120.
A career in teaching is rewarding and you will have a big impact on society if you do a good Job. What better way to see the personal development of a child and know that you have helped them along the way.
Golden Proportion and Golden Mean
Private Versus Independent
In March 2008 we were faced with choosing the preferred secondary school places for our son. After listing our 4 preferences we received notification that we had been unsuccessful on all and were allocated a school further away with a 22% GCSE A-C success rate and a history of violence, bullying and low achievement. To say we were mortified would be an understatement.
Our son had been to a small village school with an excellent record and great staff and children. He was a bright, happy, polite, kind and sport mad boy. We started the appeal process and after 8 in total were turned away from every school leaving the original offer our only option. My son was devastated as he was the only child excluded and watched as his friends were delighted to have got their chosen schools.
Despite our ongoing appeals with the county councils, local MP and the individual schools, he did not go back to school in September as fortunately my husband is a qualified teacher and we were able to home school although it was our last resort and was not appropriate for a sociable child.
After 3 weeks at home, our son was very unhappy, not motivated, lonely and very upset.
We approached our local Independent school which generally has a waiting list in the vague hope they had a place or could help us. At £12,000 a year we were not in a position to afford it but were prepared to make every sacrifice for our son's educated. Fortunately a pupil had turned down his place at the last minute so a place was available. Like all independent schools an entry exam and interview is required which he sailed through and was offered the place.
We were all delighted, especially my son who already had 1 friend at the school in the year above.
18 months on, it was the best decision ever. If you are ever able to find a way to get your children privately educated then I would absolutely recommend it. Our son is thriving, bright, driven, smart, respectful and incredibly happy. The zero tolerance on bullying, bad behaviour, lack of respect or discipline and the failure to do your best at all times is fantastic. The quality of teachers and lack of teaching jobs at the school just show what a good environment it is to work in. The teachers actually get the opportunity to teach rather than manage children and behaviour which is often the case in some state schools.

A Brief History of Sparklers
It is believed that the Chinese first invented fireworks in the sixth century. As time passed, the use of fireworks spread throughout the world and a lot of new variations were created. It has become a crucial part of celebrating major events like the Independence Day, New Years Day, Bonfire night of England etc. Today the most used form of fireworks is the sparklers. It is a form of fireworks that can be held in the hand while the coated side burns.According to BBC's e-cyclopedia the primitive form of sparklers was invented by Callinicos of Heliopolis in about AD 670. Callinicos, who was an architect, called the invention 'Cherosiphon' which was more like a small Roman candle. Through the work of various fireworks manufacturer, that Cherosiphon has evolved in to sparkler. Sparklers consist of a long thin wire or rod that is coated down halfway with slow burning pyrotechnic composition. The pyrotechnic composition contains metallic fuel, the main ingredient to create the sparkles and other materials like Aluminum, Iron, and Titanium etc. to create colored sparkles.
Sparklers are inexpensive and easy to use fireworks. Besides the traditional use in celebration events, sparklers are getting popular in weddings, where especially made wedding sparklers are used instead of rice or birdseed. The visitors create an archway holding the sparklers upward for the bride and groom to pass through. The commonly used wedding sparkler is the 36" sparkler which is used for the longer burning time.
Since its creation sparklers have been a great source of joy for people to celebrate events. As such, sparklers are becoming a part of almost all kinds of celebration events.
